FACILITATOR: Joy Martin & Toni-Lee Challice
Joy Martin (Mother) – Have crocheted, knitted, sewed & completed a variety of self-taught craft skills. Made most of my 6 children’s clothing up until they were teenagers. I love to create my own designs. Have taught myself many crafts including macramé, sculpting wood & clay, timber art.
Crochet baby items crocheted teddy bears & dolls, paper art, cards. I have a great eye & imagination and can visualise a finished project.
Also Tye dye & redesign clothing. Created & sold handmade jewellery. Creating is my passion.
Toni-Lee Challice (Daughter) – learnt to crochet & knit as a child. Sewed through the years my kids were little. Dabbled in macramé.
Crocheting is my favourite & has been my saviour through my breast cancer journey. Great for the mind, absolutely a form of mindfulness. Cancer has brought out many other creative talents – painting, recycled art, crystal jewellery, charms & now designing & creating digital artwork.
I love to create & design cotton & wool boho bags, dilly bags washer’s scarfs, beanie’s, pillows, ladies clothing.
I am lucky to have come from a creative family of women. My great gran, grandmother, aunties & mother. Even did a little weaving with the Maoris as a child in NZ. As a child I was lucky enough to sit around with Mum, aunties & gran’s & knit or crochet.
Mum & I still now crochet together & we’re always bouncing ideas off each other or swapping materials. So hence the creation of our tribe, a chance for others to experience the same.
